Another busy year lies behind us. Throughout the last 12 months, the Learnetic team has focused heavily on two critical areas: modernizing our backend infrastructure to ensure speed and stability, and expanding capabilities to provide digital accessibility (WCAG 2.2) in our Player. Whether you are delivering content via mobile apps, desktop browsers, or printable worksheets, our latest updates ensure a seamless experience for every learner.
Here is a summary of the most significant changes and improvements introduced to mAuthor and ICPlayer.
Multimedia: HLS & SRT Support We have enhanced video content capabilities.
HLS Streaming Support: The Video addon now natively supports HTTP Live Streaming (.m3u8). This allows for adaptive bitrate streaming, ensuring smooth playback even on slower connections.
Speed Control: Audio, TextAudio and Video modules now support playback speed adjustments via keyboard shortcuts and TTS, fully complying with WCAG requirements.
Accessibility First (WCAG 2.2) Making complex interactive content accessible to everyone was our top priority.
Model Viewer 3D TTS: We bridged the gap between 3D visuals and screen readers. You can now define alternative texts for specific states of 3D models, allowing visually impaired students to explore 3D objects via audio descriptions.
Accessible Math: We achieved a breakthrough in rendering LaTeX formulas with interactive gaps. Screen readers can now seamlessly read mathematical expressions that contain input fields.
Writing Calculations Navigation: A new "Row-based Navigation" mode has been added to the Writing Calculations module, significantly improving the UX for keyboard and screen reader users.
Hybrid Learning: Printable View Optimization We know that paper is still part of the classroom. We resolved critical synchronization issues with MathJax rendering in Printable Views. Additionally, a new method, setPrintableOrder, allows authors to define a specific logical order for elements on the printed page, independent of their visual layout on the screen.
OpenAI Integration: We added a dedicated field for "OpenAI API Key" in Company Space settings, streamlining the integration of AI services within your lessons. Along with this feature, a new set of OpenAI Responses API endpoints is already available in mAuthor, so you can enrich your lessons with AI. Soon we are going to add a possibility to define the API Key individually by the owner of the Company Space and a brand new AI Assistant addon.
Enhanced Analytics for xAPI For our enterprise clients, we expanded the xAPI data model. The Player now tracks deeper engagement metrics, including reading timers and detailed states for creative modules like Drawing.
New Content Exporter We have deployed a new generation of our Export engine. By decoupling the export logic from the main API and allowing direct access to cloud storage, we have drastically reduced the time required to export massive courses. The new architecture is more robust and eliminates timeouts during heavy load.
Infrastructure Modernization
Python 3 Migration: We have completed a major migration of our backend services to Python 3, ensuring long-term security, performance, and maintainability of the platform.
We are committed to providing the most powerful authoring platform for education.
Stay tuned for more updates in 2026!
Happy Holidays and a successful New Year 2026!
May the coming months bring you inspiring projects, smooth deployments, and engaging learning experiences for your students and users.
